6-Week Book Study Course <
Tuesdays, May 11 – June 15, 7pm-9pm. Suggested donation for course – $50.
This Public Talk is designed to give participants an opportunity to explore meditation practice and decide whether they wish to commence a process of increasing their awareness in everyday life. As Mr. Ferguson states:
“There are two essential aspects of the path of awakening: learning to trust that we are already naturally awake and committing to meditation practice. Discover how each supports the other in our efforts to become fully who we are. Learn to understand natural wakefulness in ourselves and how to gain confidence in it. Learn the fundamentals of meditation and work with exercises and guided contemplations intended to help us experience innate wakefulness.
“Wakefulness is our natural state: enlightened, complete, perfect in wisdom and compassion. It's not something outside ourselves that we need to attain or become. But it's also true that some effort is required to get in touch with it — and that effort is what spiritual practice is about.”
In this presentation, Mr. Newman will explore the different approaches to awareness in everyday life through an introduction to mindfulness/awareness practice and its path. On May 11, Mr. Newman will also facilitate the first of a series of six group discussions. Subsequent Tuesday discussion groups will be led by Manchester Shambhala Meditation Group members and teachers.
