The next course at Manchester Shambhala Meditation Group will review No Time to Lose; A Timely Guide to the Way of the Bodhisattva by Pema Chodron. This book is a commentary on a 6th century work, the Bodhisattvavatara, which is a seminal work of the Buddhist Mahayana. The Mahayana is the broad path of working to create an enlightened society rather than achieve simply personal enlightenment.
The course will cover the text in depth during its eight week duration. The first class will explain what is meant by the term “bodhisattvaâ€, and begin advancing through the first three chapters of Pema’s commentary. Although the material is challenging (looking back 14 centuries to perceive the wisdom contained in a main stream Indian Buddhist text), the teachers, Roger Guest and Jason Newman, hope to bring the immediacy of the teachings to life as we live it here in 21st century New England. The book may be purchased at Northshire Bookstore, while supplies last.
The course will meet for eight Tuesday evenings, 7pm – 9pm, starting June 3, at 107B Bonnet St. Fee: $50 (with 50% discount for second person in same household). If this amount creates an obstacle to attending, please discuss other options with our treasurer, Susan Engel, at the first class. Free to sustaining members.
