Learn to Meditate in Manchester

The practice of meditation allows the mind to relax and settle. It’s a technique that anyone can use to encourage the mind’s inherent qualities of stability, clarity and mental strength to emerge. The Manchester Shambhala Meditation Group is happy to offer several opportunities in the new year as an introduction to this timeless practice.

Open House – Tuesday, Jan 5, 7-9pm
All are welcome to join us for meditation instruction, a talk by one of our teachers, and social time with refreshments. Free.
Shambhala Level I: The Art of Being Human – Friday, Jan 8 – Sunday, Jan 10
This introductory level weekend includes meditation training and practice, talks by a senior instructor, individual meetings, and group discussions. This is the first of 5 levels which provide a strong foundation in mindfulness-awareness meditation practice, emphasizing the development of genuineness, confidence, humor, and dignity within the complexity of daily life. The program runs Friday 7-9pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, and Sunday 9am-noon. Cost for the weekend is $100 and includes continental breakfasts and a reception at the end of the program. Please register.
Meditation in Everyday Life – Tuesday evenings, Jan 19 – Feb 16, 7-9pm
This 5-week course presents an introduction to mindfulness meditation and the ways it can help us work with emotions, develop compassion, and navigate our daily life. We will examine how meditation practice can impact our daily life and our whole society. Cost for 5-week course is $50. Please register.

Shambhala Level I: The Art of Being Human

The Manchester Shambhala Meditation Group is honored to present Level I of Shambhala Training with Roger Guest.

Shambhala Training Level I: The Art of Being Human marks the beginning of the Heart of Warriorship Program which teaches students of any tradition effective tools for meditation. This first Level focuses on the basic technique of mindfulness meditation. By settling our minds, we begin to see the magic of the world beyond our habitual filters, and experience the quality of basic goodness which can neither be created nor destroyed. Shambhala Training is recommended for new and experienced meditators, as well as for those looking to enrich their existing spiritual tradition. The weekend includes meditation training and practice, talks by a senior teacher, individual meetings with the directors, and group discussions.

The weekend begins with a talk on Friday evening, January 8th at 7:00 pm. The program continues Saturday, January 9th from 9-5 and Sunday, January 10th from 9-noon.

Cost for the weekend is $100 and includes a continental breakfast each morning, plus a reception at the end of the program. For more information or to register, please contact Bethany at 802-375-6353.

Special Nyinthun In November

Our monthly nyinthun will be held on Sunday, November 15th from 9am-12pm. We will be alternating sitting and walking meditation, with a short period of yoga in the middle. As always, you are welcome to come for any part of the three hours. Beginners are cordially welcome and meditation instruction will be available. Please join us after the nyinthun for a celebration of the Sakyong’s birthday! Cake, sake, toasts, offerings and general merriment!

Also occurring on the weekend of Nov 14th-15th: Ashe Acharya John Rockwell will be offering refuge vows at Karme Choling in Barnet, VT. A talk and interviews with aspiring participants will occur on Nov 14, and the vow ceremony will be on the morning of Nov 15.
