Shambhala Day

February 22
6:00to9:30

Please join the Manchester Shambhala Meditation Group on Wednesday Feb 22nd from 6:00 to 9:30pm for our annual Shambhala Day event! Shambhala Day is a celebration of the New Year in accordance with the Tibetan lunar calendar, and this is the most important festivity in the Shambhala tradition. Everyone is welcome, including family and friends.

Shambhala Day is a time for us to express the wealth and richness of our spiritual and cultural heritage through feasting, conviviality, and elegance. We will enliven our celebration with sitting, offerings, desserts, and an address by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.

If you can attend, come having eaten dinner, but please consider bringing some dessert or finger food, or drink (sake, wine, or non-alcoholic) to share toward the end of the celebration. In addition, if you would like to offer entertainment (poetry, readings, songs, instrumental pieces, etc…), we will welcome these during the party. Attire and attitude for the party is uplifted and fun!

This is a wonderful time to celebrate the joy of our relationships, families, earth, sangha, and the inherent wakefulness in all of us. Come welcome in the Year of the Water Dragon!

Contentment in Everyday Life

Contentment can be hard to find. Much of the time we search for contentment in things, achievements or relationships. With meditation practice, we relax with ourselves and appreciate simple human experiences. Difficult emotions and the challenges of life can be met with gentleness, mindfulness and inquisitiveness. The purpose of Contentment in Everyday Life is to introduce an experience and understanding of contentment as the foundation for both the spiritual path and a sane life.

The path of Shambhala is here to awaken us to the potential of our lives.  It teaches us how to live meaningfully and vigorously, with joy.  Its ancient but practical wisdom allows us to discover unconditional human confidence.  Through the practice of meditation, we discover that goodness, strength, and wisdom are inherent in our own mind and being.  Having gained this insight, we are able to maneuver through life with courage, intelligence, and compassion.  Daily life becomes an opportunity to further cultivate these qualities.
                                          -Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche

Jason Newman will be teaching this course on 5 consecutive Tuesday evenings, Feb 28 – March 27, from 7-9pm. Suggested donation for the 5-week class is $40, though any donation is welcome.
