Shambhala Day 2008 – Come Celebrate!

The Manchester Shambhala Meditation Group will be celebrating the primary Shambhala Buddhist holiday, Shambhala Day, on Tuesday Feb. 12, and we hope you can join us. A great description of what the day is all about came recently in an email from the Boston center:

“In our tradition, what is most “holy” for a “day” is a celebration of basic goodness, and a direct appreciation of ordinary magic and community. Shambhala Day marks the Tibetan New Year and is a time for us to express the wealth and richness of our spiritual and cultural heritage through feasting, conviviality, elegance and community.”

Our evening celebration will include:

6:15 – suggested arrival time, so sitting can begin promptly at 6:30

6:30 – 6:50 group sitting practice

6:50 – 7:20 Watching the latest Shambhala Day film, which “includes coverage of the fantastic work being done by the archives, the Royal Treasures of Shambhala, to preserve the Vidyadhara's teachings; reports from the Shambhala Congress in Cologne; the wedding festivities of the Sakyong and Khandro-la in India; the pilgrimage to Wu Tai Shan; The Kalapa Festival; and the award of the Congressional Gold Medal to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.”

7:20 – 7:50 Listening to the Sakyong's Shambhala Day address

7:50 – ?? Cocktails, welcoming new members, pot luck dinner and entertainment

Whether you've been a regular attendee or haven't been to the center in quite a while, we hope you will join us for the festivities. Significant others are invited too, and uplifted attire is suggested.

If you plan to attend please send an email to susan_engelcomcastnet so we can plan appropriately. Please include in the email how many people are coming and what you'd like to bring to the pot luck. Of course, there is no need to RSVP if you've had one or more conversations with Susan about this already!

We hope to see you there.
