Taming the Mind

The Manchester Shambhala Meditation Group is pleased to offer Taming the Mind, a beginning class open to all persons interested in how to work with the mind through meditation practice. Taming the Mind is a traditional Buddhist approach to dealing with the problems that we create through mental fixation, self-centered thoughts of various types, and the inability to see reality as it is, unencumbered by our own projections. Through working with these habitual patterns as the basis for meditation, we can develop a mind that is joyful and disciplined. Walking the path toward liberation from self-induced suffering, we can view the world with confidence and understanding that comes from living life with a broader perspective than referring all events against what the “I” would like.

This six-week course draws on 2,500 years of experience in how life can unfold in a vast perspective. The public is cordially invited to an Open House on Thursday, May 31 at 7pm, when instructor Roger Guest will provide an overview of the course and an introduction to meditation. No experience is necessary.

The class continues over the following five Thursday evenings, beginning with a half hour of mediation, followed by a presentation and discussion period. Tuition for the course is $30 plus purchase of text. For additional information or to preregister, please call Martha at 802 325-3146.
