Taming The Mind 2006

The Taming the Mind course is going into class 4 this Tuesday. For those of you who have not been able to make every class, please try to keep up with the readings and talks by getting them from the file box outside the doorway to the center. Both the weekly readings and contemplations and the recorded class tapes will be in the box by Wednesday morning.

A reminder to people to please save the date of Sunday Nov. 14. This will be the one day intensive which will include classes 6 and 7 for the Taming the Mind course. The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. and go until 5:30 p.m. Participants should bring a lunch to be eaten in silence (chips not recommended) in order to maintain the unbroken meditative atmosphere of the intensive. This day will give us all an opportunity to open further into the practices that we have been studying in this course and I greatly encourage everyone to make the sacrifices and schedule changes required to attend!

We have been in regular contact with Maggie up at Karme Choling, she is very busy with her new position but wanted us to be aware of several upcoming programs that are timely offerings for our sangha. The first is the upcoming Shambhala Level 1 weekend to be offered next weekend on Oct.
29, 30, & 31. The teacher will be Roger Guest, former Director of Karme Choling. His warm interpersonal style and long experience with meditation should make this a great opportunity for those of you who have been considering doing a weekend program.

The other upcoming program that is of interest to our center is the Exploring the Shambhala Path of Social Action weekend on Dec. 3, 4, & 5. This program will be led by a Zen priest who has been active in the Prison Sangha network and the prison hospice program. It would be great if some of us could go to this program to look at how our center could become more socially ingagaged in our community through compassionate activity. More information about these programs is available at the Karme Choling web site, which you can access in our “links” section.
