The Manchester Shambhala Meditation Group was pleased to host Acharya Eric Spiegel on October 11, 2007. Acharya Spiegel was very generous in offering to give personal interviews with sangha members during the afternoon, and then he presented an evening community talk entitled “Traveling the Shambhala Buddhist Pathâ€
Acharya Spiegel has been a student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche for over 35 years. He lived in Boulder for several years in the 70’s, working at the Naropa Institute, and then moved to Karmê Chöling for a while to deepen his connection with practice and teaching. He also had a 22-year career as the treasurer of a private investment firm. He teaches extensively on the contemplation of death and dying, and works with people with life-threatening illnesses. He teaches dharma in the gay community through the groups Queer Dharma and Diamond Metta. In addition, he is a certified yoga teacher. Since 1980 he has been actively involved as a senior teacher in the Shambhala Meditation Center in New York.
