This five week class will consider the Vipashyana aspects of meditation practice. In some respects, Shamatha can be considered as a highly-focused meditation technique that keeps returning us to the present moment until the mind gains some stability. The Vipashyana aspect of meditation then begins to arise and becomes the foundation for awakening into the whole space of our existence and into the openness to the world. This class will examine the qualities of precision and clear seeing that develop at this stage of the meditation practice. Without the panoramic awareness of Vipashyana, the emptiness of appearances cannot be apprehended directly, and it is the understanding of mere appearances that begins to free us from samsara.
This class will be taught by Jason Newman. Suggested donation is $50 for the 5-week course.
